El The blackout of April 27 revealed an uncomfortable reality: Our electrical grid, although robust, is not without risks. For many companies, this power outage was a wake-up call. In a context of increasing electrification, where more and more processes depend on a stable grid, Having an energy storage system is no longer a competitive advantage, but a strategic necessity.
El Storage allows for balancing consumption, reducing grid dependence and maximizing renewable production. And now, thanks to the new call for grants published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) (Order TED/535/2025), it's also becoming a much more accessible investment. It's the perfect time to act: the financial backing is there, and the technology is more mature than ever.
What types of aid are available?
Is public subsidies financed by the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund), with the aim of promoting innovative energy storage projects. Although the order is national, many calls for applications are managed by the autonomous communities.
There is no total limit on the funds to be distributed., so there is no global maximum as in previous calls for proposals. However, each project may have a grant limit, depending on the technical and budgetary criteria of each call. You can submit your application until December 2025. Projects must be fully operational by December 31, 2028.
Which companies can benefit?
∙ Private or public companies with tax domicile in Spain
∙ SMEs and large companies
∙ Associations or other entities with their own legal personality
What types of projects can be submitted?
Projects of an innovative nature will be especially valued and may include:
∙ Grid-connected standalone storage systems
∙ Hybrid installations with renewable sources
∙ Thermal storage solutions or power-to-heat technologies
∙ Hydroelectric pumping
In all cases, the system must have a minimum power of 1 MW.
What costs do these grants cover?
The grants do not only subsidize batteries or equipment, but also include a comprehensive approach:
∙ Acquisition of equipment and infrastructure
∙ Electrical systems, control and monitoring software
∙ Civil works related to the project
∙ Technical studies, construction management, audits
∙ Application management costs
How much can be subsidized?
It will depend on the location where the project is developed:
∙ Up to 40% in more developed regions (Madrid, Catalonia, Euskadi...)
∙ Up to 60% in transition regions (Castilla y León, Murcia, etc.)
∙ Up to 85% in less developed regions (Andalusia, Extremadura, Canary Islands...)
Furthermore, the lower the requested aid compared to the maximum possible, the higher the score the project will receive.
How do you apply for help?
The application process is 100% online. It's easier than it seems:
- You prepare a solid technical proposal
- You provide the basic documentation required for each call.
- You submit your application through the corresponding electronic office (usually regional).
There are also tools and support platforms that make the process easier. And if you have technical assistance, the process is perfectly manageable.
